St. Joseph's Primary School

Today we were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to visit one of the best schools in Belfast! This primary school is an Eco-Friendly based school. We had the opportunity to discover the garden where they had trails, "mini-beast hotels, hedgehog homes, apple trees, bird feeders, bird houses, a pond, herbs, raised flower beds, apple trees and so on.

The children were extremely kind and gave us an immense amount of information about their Eco-Friendly school, which they took so much pride in. They told me about how their school saves energy by having lights all throughout the school that have sensors in order to be conscious of keeping the lights on at unnecessary times. They also catch the rain from the gutters, which travels into the tank underneath the school. The water is primarily used for the toilets and sinks. Not only that, but their school also uses solar panels!

It was an absolutely amazing experience, and is most definitely something that I will bring into my classroom back in the states. Having an Eco-Friendly school really gives the students a sense of pride and responsibility, and I saw so much pride in the students that showed me around their school.
